About Gemz

Gemz is a FREE mobile local loyalty program that gives you points (Gemz) for shopping at neighborhood businesses. We launched this program in the Elmwood neighborhood of Berkeley California in May of 2011. Our goal is to help local businesses connect with people who live in the neighborhood, providing terrific rewards for shopping locally.

Much like a frequent flyer program where you earn miles wherever you fly, Gemz is a frequent shopper program where you earn Gemz whenever you support local businesses. Gemz can then be exchanged, again in the local neighborhood, for a great reward. Here is how it works:

Vintage Berkeley might offer a special price for wine when you shop using Gemz (check specific offers on our Gemz app website as they are updated regularly). In order to take advantage of this offer you would have to first make a purchas that allows you to collect Gemz from another of our participating Elmwood merchants — perhaps from Boss Robot down the street. Buying from one shop and earning Gemz, then spending those Gemz to get a great deal at another local merchant is what our program is all about — hopefully it makes your shopping experience in the Elmwood more fun and gives you great local deals.

Currently the Gemz app is only available for iPhone but we will be supporting Android later this summer.
